Your Wealth and Power Vs. Your Soul

There are some guys in this world that have almost everything anybody could want. Quite a few may be celebrities such as famous actors on the big screen or small screen. Some may be superstar athletes playing for your favorite team while others are big wigs at top name, blue chip companies. It may even be you, the person who makes a small fortune as a small business, a doctor, or a lawyer. I have a few question for you, are you honestly happy? Would you still be happy if it all went down the drain in our currently volatile economy? Here is an even bigger question, you may be set for life, how is your soul? Is your soul as rich as your bank account or your assets?
Jesus tells a story in Luke 12:16-21, about a rich man who has everything he could ever want, but dies in the end.
And he spake a parable unto them saying
The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully
And he thought within himself, saying What shall I do
because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns and build greater
and there I will bestow all my fruits and my goods.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid
up for many years; take thine ease, drink eat and be merry.
But GOD said unto him Thou fool this night thy soul shall be required of thee;
then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?
So is he that that layeth up treasure for himself and is not rich toward
GOD.
Here is a guy who is rich and is beginning plans to expand his business. He wants to tear down his old barns and build new ones giving him more storage room to to grow his business and even make more money, even be set for life at possibly an early retirement, or just flat out PARTY. Does this sound familiar like someone we know? Let's put it in different terms, you are a rich lawyer with a big firm and a wealthy clientele. You can break from the firm, giving you more chances to earn more money. You may not be a lawyer, but a small business rolling in the cash when suddenly you realize , its time to expand your small business and possibly go international. Hey cool, sounds like a smart plan, or is it?
The man in the story or the parable that Jesus talks about dies. Do you know when you are going to die? It could be today, tomorrow, next week, or thirty years down the road. The fact is your going to die someday. Can you take your Beemers, your huge crib, your vacation home in the Hampton's and you cash load into the afterlife? No.
God called this rich guy a fool. Why would a loving God say such a thing about this guy. The answer is that here is a man whose main focus in life was making more money. He had no time for a relationship with God or do his will nor did he even care. He didn't know when he was going to die, but he wasn't concerned about that. He was a self serving sinner who cared nothing about God. Sound familiar?
Before you start saying "Sounds like another preacher asking for money." read the following words. I can give a rip about your money. That's not the point. I am quite happy living in a double wide for now as I finish school. The point is you need to repent and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. You are like that rich guy making plans while his soul is in danger and God calls you a fool. I know it sounds harsh and blunt, but who do you think blessed you with your money? God gave you your instincts and talents for being able to make your fortune happen, but you spit in his face and foolishly ignore him.
God sent His Son Jesus to die for your sins aka, your selfish arrogance, and your refusal to repent. You think God cares more about your pocket book than your soul? Here is the deal. Choice "A", you can go on your way and not care about the condition of your soul and be a fool. Choice "B" you can wise up, repent, and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9-10 says "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
All you need to do is pray to God and acknowledge that you are a sinner and confess that you need him to forgive you of your sins. You confess to him and believe deep down inside your gut that not only that he died for your sins but that He raised Jesus Christ from the dead and you will allow Him to call the shots in your life.
If you chose choice "A", I hope its not too late before you change you mind. If, however you chose choice "B" I would like to hear about how you came to this decision for Christ. I would love to hear from you. God Bless.
